OUR MIDWIVES

Registered Midwife [On Leave]
My family and I moved to Canada from the United Arab Emirates. I grew up in Bowness, Calgary and after high school went to the University of Calgary to complete my first degree in Psychology. During these university years, I got involved in women’s rights, BIPOC, queer, and faith activism. My passion for women’s rights, social justice, combined with healthcare led me to midwifery. I wanted to be of service to people in a holistic way, honouring who they are and where they come from and providing intersectional, client-centred care.
I went on to complete a Bachelor’s of Midwifery degree at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2021. I returned to Calgary to join Phoenix Midwives where I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve diverse clients and their families. I speak Bengali and Hindi/Urdu.
Outside of midwifery, I love to cook, garden and host people for dinners.

Registered Midwife
It was while studying Psychology and Creative Writing at the University of Alberta that I became interested in pursuing midwifery as a profession. During that time I developed a passion for women’s rights and issues of violence against women. I became interested in becoming a midwife because I learned that midwives were caregivers who promoted power remaining in the hands of pregnant individuals and their families. With power in their hands, people can make the decisions they need to in order to have positive and healthy pregnancies, births and parenting experiences.
I attended the University of British Columbia to complete my midwifery education and, while in the program, engaged in clinical placements in Calgary, Vancouver’s downtown eastside, lower mainland Vancouver and Uganda.
The more I engage in midwifery, the more I appreciate the simplicity, yet profoundness of the work. I enjoy the challenge and blessing that comes with every task: from meeting people and accepting where they are in their lives, to witnessing them transition into new roles and identities, to encouraging them to trust in their own instincts and abilities.
I look forward to working with the clients at Phoenix Midwives and helping to grow midwifery in Calgary.

Registered Midwife
After completing my midwifery training at Mount Royal University in Calgary, I have had the pleasure of serving families in Edmonton, London (Ontario) and now Calgary. In each place I have worked, I continue to be awed by the transformative power of pregnancy and birth; and humbled by the trust placed in me by the families in my care. It's always an honour to inform and care for families during this time of transition. As a midwife, I aim to provide individualized, inclusive and informative care to all of my clients. I strive to meet my clients where they are in their lives, and hold space for them to make the best choices for themselves. I have also developed a passion for advocating for my clients, within the healthcare system and in their community.
As a LGBTQ+ person, I understand the importance of having a safe space where you feel welcomed and accepted. I am continually learning and growing as a professional and always aim to provide culturally safe care to my clients.
Outside of midwifery, I enjoy playing in the mountains as often as possible. You may see me out rock climbing, hiking, snowboarding or snow shoeing. You may also find me curled up on the couch with a good book, my dog, cat and wife.

Student Midwife
I am a student midwife at Mount Royal University and am so honoured to be working with Babil Pobee and Phoenix Midwives for my clerkship year!
My passion for perinatal health and wellness began in childhood, as I watched my grandmother compassionately care for pregnant individuals and their newborn babies within our family. My academic journey first led me to earn an undergraduate degree in Honours Neuroscience at the University of Alberta. I then completed a Master’s in Medical Science at the University of Calgary, where I worked on the Pregnancy During the Pandemic Study. Working with the pregnant individuals from the study and listening to their stories brought me back to the joy of supporting perinatal health. From there, I found midwifery and never looked back.
I feel deeply privileged to be on this path to becoming a midwife. The model of midwifery drew me to the profession as I am enthusiastic about informed choice and client-centered care. As a provider, I am dedicated to creating safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for clients and their families. Midwifery has genuinely been a life calling for me, allowing me to blend my passions for pregnancy, birth, reproductive justice, newborn care, and advocacy. It is truly an honour to be invited into such a transformative period of a person's life.
On a more personal note, you may find me nose-deep in a fantasy book, drinking copious amounts of tea, crocheting until my fingers cramp, or spending time with my two dogs, Flint and River. I also love hiking, dancing, and trying out new yummy recipes!
I look forward to walking alongside you during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your story!

I was born and raised in Calgary, and I’m proud to call North East Calgary my home. I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology. I had the privilege of joining the Hynes lab at the University of Calgary as a graduate student, conducting laboratory research in bacterial genetics.
During my graduate studies, I became ill with both chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. As I worked to restore my health, I became very passionate about issues of social justice and women’s rights, particularly those involving health and disability. In 2021, I was given the exciting opportunity to join this clinic and translate this passion into direct, client-focused care.
I believe very much in the power of transformative change through creating supportive, caring communities. It’s an honour to serve and support our pregnant clients and their families throughout their pregnancy journey. When not at work, I can be found baking, knitting my own clothes, and searching for the perfect cup of coffee.
“Phoenix Midwives allowed us to have the best prenatal and postpartum care our family could've ever asked for. From the warm welcome by the receptionist, Paige, the first time I called to all of the smiling faces of the whole team each visit, I felt very cared for and incredibly blessed to have Babil as my midwife.
I felt so supported and informed throughout my pregnancy which helped me take as much agency during labour and delivery as I could have. My family, who saw my experience said that they wished they could’ve had a midwife as well and are hoping to have one in the future. I would recommend Phoenix Midwives to others, I absolutely loved my experience.”
